Jakarta (also known as Djakarta) is the capital of Indonesia as well as being it’s largest city. It is located on the northwest coast of Java on the Ciliwung River. The port’s recorded history began in 1527. In the 20th Century the port was caught up in both the financial crisis and the civil unrest in Asia. It has certainly faced many political, social and economic changes.
