£17k raised by sporting legends at
charity golf day
Sporting legends raised over £17,000 at a charity golf day in Rayleigh, to boost funds for the Alzheimer’s Research Trust, Saint Francis Hospice and Little Havens Children’s Hospice.
SKY Sports commentators and former footballers Tony Cottee and Tony Gale joined Rugby World Cup winner, Richard Hill MBE, on the fairway at the Lords Golf & Country Club on 27 May for the event, organised by Basildon-based shipping agents, the Bronel Group.
Noel McEvoy, Managing Director of the Bronel Group, expressed his delight at the success of the event and explained the inspiration behind it:
“This is our third charity golf day and it’s our way of getting our friends in the shipping industry together for a really fun time whilst raising money for good causes. We’re thrilled with the result and the money will be split equally between the three charities.
Over 100 people took part and after completing the 18-hole course we were all ready for the evening dinner served in the club house.
Comedian Ian Irving, the variety Club of Great Britain’s Captain for 2010, provided plenty of laughter and professional compere Mark Peters took charge of the auction, with items ranging from signed football and rugby shirts, tickets for a Michael Bublé concert and holiday accommodation in Portugal.”
Richard Hill MBE, Rugby World Cup winner, said:
“It was a great fundraising day at a fantastic location. We raised money for three very deserving charities and I’m honoured to be a part of it.”
Dr Marie Janson, Director of Development for the Alzheimer’s Research Trust, added:
“We are delighted to have been selected as one of the charities to benefit from the golf day and are very grateful to the Bronel Group and everyone else involved. By raising money for vital research into Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, they are helping to bring new preventions, treatments and a cure ever nearer.
There are over 15,000 people in Essex living with the daily reality of dementia and more investment into research is desperately needed. Our work is entirely funded by our wonderful supporters – every penny counts!”

Bronel Girls run Race for Life 5k
The “Bronel Girls” team raised over £350 at the Basildon 5k Race for Life on Sunday, for Cancer Research. There are more donations still to come in and to help them raise their target of £500, or for more details of their run and sponsorship, vists the Bronel Girls’ page HERE.

Jon Clay Walked 26.2 miles for Childrens Cancer
Jon Clay and his wife Corinne attempted the “SHINE MIDNIGHT MARATHON” through London on the 1st October 2011. Their target was to raise £600 but with thanks to all of your generosity they managed to reach this target and more with the current amount raised is £2334.50. Corinne had to retire at 17 miles due to injury but Jon managed to complete all 26.2 miles in 7hrs 50 mins
